Life/Health Licensing Process

To become a licensed Life/Health Agent with the state of California you are required to complete 52 hours of pre-licensing training. Once you complete the 52 hours of training you will need to schedule your exam with the Department of Insurance and prepare yourself for the exam. To streamline this process we have set up a program that is easy to follow and gives you many different tools to ensure your success. It is important to recognize you must complete all the segments within 1 year of enrollment. Also, you do not have to complete the segments in any particular order or one location. If you must miss a class or segment for any reason, you can make up the missed class the next time it is offered at any of our locations.

Step #1: Decide whether you would like to complete the pre-licensing class in a live classroom setting or online.. Click here to see the Mike Russ Locations (locations tab at top of webpage): San Diego, Anaheim, Ontario/Upland, Woodland Hills, Pasadena, Bakersfield, San Jose, Sacramento.

Step #2: Decide how you are going to prepare for the exam. We recommend you attend a minimum of two exam preparation classes and utilize our additional study materials (workbook, flash cards and study hall). MAKE SURE YOU VIEW OUR PACKAGES IN STEP #3-discounts on these items are given in packages!

Mike Russ offers many tools to ensure your success. Please take the time to familiarize with following continuing education classes offered by Mike Russ Schools.

How to use your Life & Disability License Class:

We have found that many students have completed the licensing process, but when it's time to actually work in the insurance business that is where they start to stumble. This class is set up to address things such as contracting, appointments, rating systems, software, and everything else that you'll need to run an independent agency.

Annuities Class:

This course is designed to train new insurance agents about Annuities and to meet the 8-hour state requirement. In this course you learn the difference between Fixed, Indexed and Variable Annuities and when they are appropriate. We will also cover sales opportunities, marketing techniques and how to read a pricing sheet.

Financial Planning 101:

This class is ideal for the new agent that is looking to break into the insurance industry with a bang or someone that wants to get their own financial life in order. We will cover life insurance, health insurance, retirement plans, wills vs. trusts, budgets and client needs analysis. This course also meets 8 hours of the required continuing education requirement for the life license.
